When big-voiced French-Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion burst onto the international music scene in 1991, it was apparent that the female counterpart to Michael Bolton had emerged. Whether that was a necessary (or desirable) development is a matter of some debate, but the fact remains that Dion has joined the equally operatic Bolton as a fixture in the upper reaches of the charts.
Celine Dion enjoyed success and became the definition of the word DIVA in the 1990's. But all her success she had acheived paled in comparison to what was awaiting her in 1997 and 1998 - (anyone ever hear of Titanic?) Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" not only topped the singles chart, it helped the Titanic soundtrack become the best-selling album of 1998. The song was also included on the year's number two seller, Dion's own Let's Talk About Love.
After taking a much needed and deserved break, Celine Dion came back in March 2003 with another new studio effort, One Heart. However, rather than tour in the traditional sense, Celine has decided to set up shop in Las Vegas with her show "A New Day ... featuring Celine Dion," in March of 2003, and played on about 150 nights during her inaugural year at The Colosseum, a venue built at Caesar's Palace specifically for the production. She continues to play nearly (100) shows per year, and will continue to do so thru 2006. Along with "her heart", Celine's show, goes on as well.
