Cry Baby Synopsis & Storyline
Baltimore, 1954. Everyone likes Ike,
nobody likes communism, and Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker is the coolest
boy in town. He's a bad boy with a good cause—truth, justice and the
pursuit of rock 'n' roll—and when he falls for Allison
Vernon-Williams, a good girl who wants to be bad, her charm school
world of bobby sox and barbershop quartets will never be the same.
Wayward youth, juvenile delinquents, sexual repression, cool music,
dirty lyrics, bizarre rejects...finally, the '50s come to life
onstage in the new musical Cry-Baby.
Based on John Waters' 1990 film starring Johnny Depp, Cry-Baby
features a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan (Tony winners
for the Broadway production of Waters' Hairspray) and a score
by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger, the Oscar- and
Grammy-nominated songwriter of the rock band Fountains of Wayne. A
young and talented cast brings Waters' characters to life in one of
the most anticipated Broadway musicals of the season!
