Like former Mouseketeers Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears, teen sensation Hilary Duff also owes much of her fame to Disney, but she was not merely a member of the Mickey Mouse Club. Rather, in 2001 Duff landed the starring role in the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire and won the hearts of tween TV viewers in the U.S. and abroad.

Like many teen stars, Duff began her showbiz career at an early age. When she was a mere six, she was hired as a dancer with the Columbus Ballet Met touring company of The Nutcracker. Television commercials and appearances soon followed, as did acting roles in such TV films at Casper Meets Wendy in 1998. However, Duff's big-screen breakthrough in 2003 took place after she had already established herself as a star on Lizzie McGuire. First there was Agent Cody Banks, which she co-starred in with male teen star Frankie Munoz. That was followed by the big-screen version of her TV alter-ego in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, a franchise that Disney had such high-hopes for, it hired a writer to pen the screenplay to the sequel even before Duff had signed on herself.

Although negotiations between Duff and Disney fell apart, leaving any future Lizzie McGuire offerings in limbo, the film and TV show launched Duff's career as a singer. In August 2002, Duff made her singing debut on "I Can't Wait" on the Lizzie McGuire TV soundtrack. After that proved to be a success on Radio Disney, it was followed by Santa Claus Lane, a Christmas album featuring Duff's duets with Christina Milian and Lil' Romeo, and other tracks.

More of Duff's potential as a pop starlet was revealed on the soundtrack to The Lizzie McGuire Movie, which featured two Duff songs--"What Dreams Are Made Of" and "Why Not"--and a remix of the latter.

Duff has completed her transformation into a full-fledge pop star with her first proper solo album, Metamorphosis, released in August 2003.

The 13 pop-rock songs on Metamorphosis were produced, arranged, written and mixed by the very best in the business. The album's behind-the-scenes-talent includes Charlie Midnight (Joe Cocker, James Brown, Joni Mitchell) who contributed to nine tracks; The Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera), the producing masterminds behind "So Yesterday," "Where Did I Go Right?" and "The Math"; Chico Bennett (Madonna, Usher, Destiny's Child); Matthew Gerrard (Nick Carter); John Shanks (Michelle Branch); Kara DioGuardi (Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias); singer-songwriter-producer Meredith Brooks; plus some of the best pop-rock musicians anywhere.

Two songs were special contributions from Hilary's number one idol: her talented big sister, Haylie Duff. "Since she knows me better than anyone else in the world, Haylie wrote 'Sweet Sixteen,' a really fun song that totally relates to my life right now. She also came up with 'Inner Strength' and it's really beautiful. Very empowering and uplifting."

Speaking of idols, here's what another one has to say: "Hilary is just completely a light to the world," no less an authority than Britney Spears told Popstar! magazine. "So beautiful and so incredibly sweet. Her music is amazing . . . she should just be herself and never change."

It's difficult to comprehend all that Hilary Duff has accomplished in the past few years. Prior to Metamorphosis, Hilary had already sold 2.2 million albums, spent six weeks in the Billboard Top 10 and earned two platinum album awards. She has starred in one #1 television series, two hit movies, and has already made two more major films (20th Century Fox's Cheaper By The Dozen with Steve Martin, and Warner Bros.' A Cinderella Story) to be released later this year. Plus, not one but two television specials will honor the big day she turns "Sweet Sixteen." The summer of 2004 also brought her her very first headlining tour, which sold out in nearly every city and was one of the hottest tickets of the summer.

And not one to rest - Hilary Duff has already just about completed her second full album - due out September 2004 - and will almost definitely gear up for yet another tour for the early part of 2005.

Can we say "From star to SUPER-star?"

Not bad for someone who really just wants her driver's license.
